SUN of WOLF is a Mexican-Californian fusion restaurant in Palo Alto that balances bold flavors with Californian freshness, making it a solid choice for brunch and lunch outings. Situated on California Avenue, it offers a relaxed, street-side dining atmosphere complemented by both indoor seating and a covered outdoor area equipped with heaters, which becomes especially inviting on chillier days.

The restaurant feels well-suited for groups looking to share a range of dishes, with menu highlights like chilaquiles topped with sunny-side-up eggs, chipotle-beet empanadas with roasted vegetables, and duck confit tacos standing out as thoughtful fusions rather than your typical Mexican fare. Brunch here draws locals who appreciate generous portions and a mix of sweet and savory options—from fluffy pistachio butter hotcakes to hearty breakfast burritos—offering a satisfying start to a weekend or weekday afternoon.

Outdoor seating brings an easy-going vibe common to the California Avenue scene, with a street-facing setup that makes it a pleasant spot for people watching and group conversations alike. While reservations aren’t typically required, securing a shaded outdoor table in summer or a spot inside on cooler days can enhance the experience. The kitchen balances traditional Mexican ingredients with Californian flair; however, some dishes, like the pork tacos, lean toward milder seasoning, which may appeal to those preferring subtler flavors.

The restaurant also draws a happy hour crowd, with approachable cocktails that often steal the show in presentation and flavor, alongside smaller appetizer portions that work well for casual sharing. Service tends to be attentive, adding to the overall easy rhythm of dining here. Parking nearby makes spontaneous visits manageable for both locals and visitors.

In short, SUN of WOLF is best for casual brunches or relaxed lunches that explore Mexican-Californian fusion without being too heavy-handed or formal. It’s a place to linger over a varied menu with friends or family, particularly inviting in mild weather when the outdoor street scene complements the food and drinks.

Cool ambience, good mexican-Californian brunch spot with both sweet and savory options from stacked pancakes to omelets and quesadillas. No reservations required on a sunday. Indoor and outdoor (covered) tables available. We got the pistachio butter hotcakes - fluffy, buttery, good stack of softness :) turns out the pistachio flavor is just the butter spread on top, not so much the pancake batter. Berries on the side, good presentation. Quesadilla was cheesy, gooey and pretty huge. The salsa was not spicy. Salad was OK freshness wise. I would come back to try their drinks- wide selection of liquors on display inside. I'd split 2 dishes and a small plate with 3 ppl. Good for groups and families.

Street dining with heaters for comfort. Space is available inside as well. We enjoyed the Pork tacos with mandarin oranges. The meat was cooked until tender but was a bit short on flavor. The Queso Fundido with chorizo and huitlacoche tortillas was tasty but the cheese was very heavy. We couldn’t finish and did not take a box. The flautas were our favorite dish, fresh and light. The Salsa & chips; one with a tomato base and one verde were good but you do have to pay $6 for two very small cups with no refills. Overall we enjoyed our dinner. The wait staff was excellent and very friendly and knowledgeable. Seemed a bit expensive for what we ordered, $110 with no drinks for three guests.

I came here with a group of 6 for brunch and we had a great time. We made reservations ahead of time and got to sit outside. The outdoor seating had a mix of shaded and unshaded tables and we were able to get a shaded table during the summer. We were pleasantly surprised because of the big portions and how yummy the food was. Service was also great. Parking can be found in a nearby garage or parking lot. I can't wait to come back for dinner!

Absolutely delicious restaurant/bar that is a great place for a happy hour. Great for those that don’t plan ahead since they don’t take reservations so we were able to be seated for a party of 4 with no wait at 6pm on a Thursday. There were still a couple of empty tables there as well. Food was delicious, appetizer portions are a little pricey and on the smaller side but the entrees are well sized, good value and everything is absolutely delicious. Plenty of drink options as well.

My friend and I wanted to be healthy and opted for a salad. I added Salmon and my friend chose chicken. The salmon was a generous portion and served with a glaze. The flavors of the salad, the dressing, and the salmon went perfectly together. My friend loved the chicken. The portions were generous and we had enough left over to take home. The biggest surprise were the cocktails. Beautiful to look at and delicious to the taste. I’m already planning my return visit to try other entrees

Just loved the place. Lively area so plan to take a little while to park. Staff is super attentive, chatty, and knowledgeable , but this place is meant for a leisurely meal. They tend to bring dishes in a serial order rather than parallel. Food is generously portioned. Amenable to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and restrictive diets. Cocktails seemed a little steep to me but delicious none the less.

Great place for an intimate date with great food, drinks and service. Our server was very friendly and did all possible to work with some ingredient intolerances. Drinks were high quality as well as the food. The vibe inside was very trendy, and intimate, but had outdoor seating as well. Would highly recommend this place.
